I began writing after many years as a performing artist – an actress and singer – and am happy to bring those years of crafting characters and storytelling into my writing life, as well as in my author consulting work. I'm a former recipient of a Rocky Mountain Women’s Institute Fellowship, and much of my writing career focuses on the stories I grew up with as the proud first generation daughter of immigrants. I love writing from a place of joy and to shine a light on Jewish families and life for all young readers. Although, I hold a special place in my writer’s heart for the Jewish kids who live in small towns. I was one of those kids and so are my three daughters.
I’m an active member of SCBWI and serve as the Assistant Regional Advisor for the Rocky Mountain Chapter. I was recently selected to be one of 20 participants in the inaugural PJ Library Emerging Jewish Picture Books Writers retreat held at the Highlights Foundation this past August. I hold a MFA in Writing and Poetics from Naropa University, as well as a B.S.S. in Theater from Northwestern University. Additionally, I've worked privately with Sarah Aronson and Lesléa Newman.
My work has been anthologized in So Glad They Told Me: Women Get Real About Motherhood (HerStories Project Press, 2016), Best Short Stories from the Saturday Evening Post Great American Fiction Contest (2015), and Primal Picnics: Writers Invent Creation Myths Around Favorite Foods (Whole World Press, 2011). I've published a number of articles, interviews, and profiles including, PJ Library Proof Magazine, Tablet, Kveller, Jewish Journal, The Jewish Telegraph, Tiferet Journal, Sydney Taylor Shmooze, and MindBodyGreen. Check out my "words" page to read the articles!
I'm also a non-fiction author marketing and platform building consultant. My clients have been featured in "Fresh Air with Terry Gross," PBS Newshour, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Colorado Matters, Common Ground, and more.
Lastly, I'm a semi-empty nester (yay!) and am happy to call Longmont, Colorado home, enjoying a constant view of the Rocky Mountains. When I'm not writing, I can be found walking on the trails with our border collie, Callie.
